Fabre Design was commissioned for the redevelopment of the Fremantle Markets Corner Café, which currently adjoins the entrance to the historic Fremantle Markets in Western Australia, and transformed it into Western Australia's first Cronut Cafe.
Fabre Design replicated the detail and tectonic expression of the original marketplace exposing the original materiality, revealing a clean and simple concrete expressions with bespoke timber detailing. The positioning of the renovated café forms a covered alfresco space between the renovated café and the existing Henderson Street Pedestrian Mall Market entrance, at once encapsulating the access to the main market entrance as well as creating an inviting outdoor area for café patrons. Fabre Design transformed the original corner cafe into a warm, comforting environment. Lead designer Nathan Allet achieved this through exposing the historic brickwork of the marketplace, using warm, earthy timbers and dimmed wired lighting fixtures.
